Latitude Margaritaville Night

The management team at Latitude Margaritaville, working with Dog Sports Unlimited, is offering their residents an opportunity to introduce their dogs to the fastest growing American Kennel Club (AKC) sport in the country. The sport is called Fast CAT. That's short for Fast Coursing Ability Test.

The AKC offers three differnt types of Coursing Ability Tests, or CATs as the are called, in which dogs of all breeds (mixed breeds included) chase a lure over a predetermined course. The distances involved are 100 yards, 300 yards, and 600 yards. The 300 and 600 yard courses are typically oval shaped whereas the 100 yard course is a straight course. Fast CAT got its name because it's the quickest or "fastest" of the CATs offered.

The shorter distance and straight line course makes it the easiest of the CATs for dogs of all shapes and sizes to participate in. From Pekingenes to Great Danes and everything in between, it's a sport that all dogs can enjoy.

Whether you are running your dog for AKC titles or just want to get involved with a fun sport, Fast CAT is a great activity for your dog. Since it relies on your dog's natural instinct, there is typically little training involved and most dogs will take right to it.

The sport works by using a lure (three white, plastic bags) that is drawn down a straight, 100 yard track. The track is fully enclosed and has timing devices set up at the start and finish lines. Your dog pursues the lure as it moves down the track and their time is recorded by the automatic timers. Using the time it took them to run the 100 yards, we can calculate their speed in MPH. You just might be surprised at how fast your dog can run!

We are very much looking forward to introducing Fast CAT to everyone that comes out for this event. We will provide a brief instructional session at 7:00 PM before we get started so everyone knows the basic rules of the game. Once that has been completed, we'll hit the track and let the dogs have some fun.
