K9 SPRINT LEAGUE
What is K9 SPRINT LEAGUE?
K9 Sprint League is a sport where teams consisting of three dogs compete against one and other. Each dog on the team makes one timed sprint (100 yards) and then the total times of all the dogs are added together, this is called a Match Team Time (MTT). Once both teams have done this, each team compares their MTT to their Season Team Time (STT) and the team performing the best versus their average season time wins the match. Any team can win on any given day since they are running against their average times and not directly against the opposing team's time. A team of three greyhounds can lose to a team of three chihuahuas, it just depends on how well they do compared to their averages.

Teams consist of three dogs of any size. Each team has a team captain. When two teams compete against each other, it's called a match. Regular season matches take place either as stand alone events, in conjunction with AKC Fast CAT events, or during DSU Fast CAT Training Camps. Championship matches are held either during DSU Fast CAT Training Camps or as stand alone events.

Each season lasts approximately 4 months. The two teams with the best win-loss record at the completion of the regular season compete in the Championship Match to determine the Season Champion.
K9 Sprint League Rules
Sport OverviewThis sport consists of teams made up of three dogs, competing in matches against each other during a regular season and culminating with the division winners competing against each other for the championship. The performance of each team’s Match Run Time (MRT) versus their current season’s Team Run Time (TRT) determines the winner of each match. The team that does best compared to their TRT wins the match. TRTs are arrived at by adding all the dog’s individual Average Run Times (ART). Each dog’s ART is determined by the average time of all previous runs made during the season prior to the current match. Beginning of season ARTs are determined by using the following (in order of preference):Previous season’s ART (champion matches excluded). The ART of the dog’s three most recent DSU Fast CAT Training Camp runs. The ART of the dog’s three most recent AKC Fast CAT runs. The ART of the dog’s two most recent DSU Fast CAT Training Camp runs. The ART of the dog’s two most recent AKC Fast CAT runs. The ART of the dog in three runs conducted by DSU for the purpose of establishing an ART.Each dog must have an official ART at the beginning of the season established in accordance with one of the above listed methods.ARTs and TRTs are updated at the conclusion of each match a team participates in.MatchesIn the regular season, a match consists of one round. A round is completed when both team’s dogs have run. During matches, the combined times of each team’s dogs will be added together to get the Match Run Time (MRT) and then compared to their TRT. The team whose MRT is lower compared to its TRT wins the match. In case of a tie, the team who had the dog whose run time was lowest compared to its ART wins. In cases in which this still doesn’t determine a winner, the match is considered a tie. Each team’s dogs can be run in any order.Once both teams have made all their runs, the scores will be calculated, with the winner being determined and the results made official. The following table provides a sample of how a match is scored:TEAM STATISTICSTeam 1 (TRT = 27.0 seconds)Dog #1 (S) (ART = 10 seconds)Dog #2 (M) (ART = 9 seconds)Dog #3 (L) (ART = 8 seconds) Team 2 (TRT = 25.5 seconds)Dog #1 (S) (ART = 9 seconds)Dog #2 (M) (ART = 8.5 seconds)Dog #3 (L) (ART = 8 seconds) MATCH RESULTSRound 1 (MRT = 26.0)Dog #1 (S) (ART = 9.5 seconds)Dog #2 (M) (ART = 9 seconds)Dog #3 (L) (ART = 7.5 seconds) Round 1 (MRT = 26)Dog #1 (S) (ART = 10 seconds)Dog #2 (M) (ART = 8.5 seconds)Dog #3 (L) (ART = 7.5 seconds)26.0(MRT) – 27.0(TRT) = -1.0 second25.5(MRT) – 26.0(TRT) =+.5 secondTeam 1 is the winner!
